TOKYO | Japan – September 2026 – Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724) today announced the launch of CONTOURJET, a new brand for its Direct-To-Shape Printing System combining Epson’s proprietary inkjet and robotics technologies. Epson will provide a total solution under the CONTOURJET brand, encompassing system performance, inks, software, implementation support, and maintenance services. The brand aims to accelerate global expansion into markets where demand for decorating three-dimensional objects is growing, including sports equipment, automotive parts, and industrial products.
Robotic Direct-to-Shape Printing Technology
CONTOURJET combines Epson’s compact PrecisionCore S800 printhead with an Epson-developed industrial six-axis robot to enable direct printing on complex three-dimensional objects with curved and uneven surfaces. The S800 printhead, paired with trajectory control and image processing technologies, delivers accurate 600 dpi × 600 dpi printing on objects featuring grooves, contours, and complex geometries.
By digitalizing conventional analog printing processes, CONTOURJET reduces manual labor, saves space, and improves manufacturing efficiency. Inkjet technology deposits ink only where needed, creating less waste than analog methods and enabling short-run and bespoke production without the need for printing plates.
System Enhancements and Substrate Versatility
Along with the new brand launch, Epson has equipped CONTOURJET with several upgraded features:
Linear Motor Drive & Payload Support: Features Epson-developed robots with linear motor drives and increased payload capacity to support larger and longer workpieces.
Serviceability: Front-access design improves maintainability and simplifies printhead replacement.
Expanded Ink Configurations: Supports multicolor printing, including white ink and clear varnish ink, enabling decorative effects ranging from base-layer printing to surface texturing.
Demonstration and Global R&D Capabilities
Epson will exhibit samples produced using CONTOURJET at PRINTING United Expo 2026 (September 23-25, Las Vegas, Nevada). Evaluation and verification of CONTOURJET technology are currently conducted at the Inkjet Innovation Lab Fujimi in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, and the Epson Experience Center in Neuss, Germany, allowing global customers to evaluate test prints on actual substrates.
