- Version 17.3 includes OS, print and cut drivers and other enhancements
ECKBOLSHEIM | France – July 2024 – Caldera has announced the release of the update for its market-leading RIP software, CalderaRIP. Scheduled for release at the end of June, Version 17.3 introduces a new OS compatibility, new print and cut drivers and many improvements to enhance the user experience and streamline production processes. Users of Version 17 can download this update directly from CalderaDock, Caldera’s license and software management interface.
Arnaud Fabre, Head of Product at Caldera, says “Our team continues to innovate and improve CalderaRIP, ensuring our customers have the tools they need to stay ahead in a competitive print and cut industry.”
New OS Compatibility and Drivers
As of Version 17.3, CalderaRIP officially supports the latest Linux Ubuntu version, “Noble Numbat” (24.04). Noble Numbat will be the 10th LTS (long-term support) edition of the most popular Linux distribution and will bring enhanced performance for its users. This new compatibility shows our commitment to provide optimal software stability and performance for the most demanding production environments. Ubuntu Jammy Jellyfish (22.04) remains compatible with CalderaRIP, as it remains a long-term supported version until 2027.
In addition, Version 17.3 introduces over 10 new drivers, expanding Caldera’s portfolio of supported devices for large-format printing and cutting. New additions include the Epson SureColor P20500 and P5300, the Roland VersaOBJECT MO-240, several Mutoh XpertJet models (1682D, 662D and 1462UF), and cut drivers such as the Liyu Platinum Q-Cut, Saga, Secabo and the Mimaki CFX series. Caldera continues to work in close collaboration with large-format printer and cutter manufacturers to ensure compatibility with the latest devices, and to integrate with any production environment.
Enhanced User Experience
Customers with an active subscription to CalderaCare will once again benefit from an exclusive feature. Hotfolders have been further improved, building on improvements from Version 17.2 released early April. In Version 17.2, users could choose to process smaller jobs in priority, or to process jobs while strictly preserving input order. Now, in Version 17.3, users can choose between a variety of new sorting algorithms: fastest (“first ready, first out”), preserve input order, numeric ascending or descending, or alphanumeric ascending or descending. These options provide users with greater flexibility in managing their workflows.
Furthermore, Version 17.3 also introduces enhancements for all users. Print operators can easily disable multi-layer printing to save time and simplify processes for more common printing jobs. In addition, to aid operators identifying the orientation of cut jobs, a new triangle orientation mark points towards the bottom edge. This will help operators save time in finishing, especially for applications involving rigid media. Moreover, users dealing with numerous customized presets can better organize their workflows using a tag system. This update simplifies the process of sending jobs to organized workflows, saving users time and increasing their efficiency.
Finally, overall software performance has been improved to ensure a smoother, more efficient experience with CalderaRIP.
