POOLE DORSET | England – October 2024 – Lush, a leading global cosmetics brand renowned for its ethical and sustainable practices, has announced a significant advancement in its operations through the integration of Roland DG’s UV printing technology.
By adopting Roland DG’s TrueVIS LG-640 printer/cutter, Lush has streamlined its prototyping and packaging processes, reduced its environmental footprint and enhanced its ability to advocate for important social and environmental causes.
The Power of Innovation Lush’s commitment to innovation extends beyond its product formulations. The Roland DG TrueVIS LG-640 printer/cutter plays a crucial role in creating prototype product packaging for new products within Lush’s Research & Development (R&D) Hub. Simon Allen, Senior R&D within Creative Production at Lush, emphasized the technology’s significance, stating, “With the LG-Series, we’ve significantly expanded our capabilities, thanks to its broad media compatibility. Now, we can print on diverse materials, including Brown Kraft paper, which has become emblematic of the Lush brand.”
Streamlining Operations and Reducing Environmental Impact The integration of the cutter within the LG series has significantly enhanced Lush’s efficiency in the prototyping process, allowing for more time to focus on innovation. Simon explained, “Prior to acquiring the LG-series, we relied on 4-5 individuals manually cutting packaging and stickers. Now, with the integrated cutter, we’ve streamlined our workflow, saving at least 3 to four hours per week and bringing all packaging back in-house. Packaging emerges from the print cycle fully prepared for use.”
Beyond Prototyping – Empowering Advocacy: Lush leverages its 104 stores as advocacy hubs, championing causes such as ‘Trains not planes’, Veganuary, ‘Have a Heart’, and ‘Refugees welcome’. The captivating window displays in these stores serve as a platform for projecting these diverse campaigns. By utilizing the LG-640, Lush can now internally produce large window graphics, facilitating greater flexibility and efficiency in its advocacy efforts.
A Commitment to Sustainability: The LG-640’s one-pass multilayer printing capability enables Lush to seamlessly apply three layers of ink in a single job, even when handling extensive print runs. Additionally, the printer offers adaptable ink configurations tailored to diverse customer preferences, ensuring brand-accurate colors and premium gloss and texture effects.
Looking Ahead: Lush has already purchased two Roland DG VersaSTUDIO BN-20 desktop printers to further diversify its range of printable products and sees potential for future expansion and innovation with Roland DG technology. Simon envisions replicating their successful R&D hub model to other markets, leveraging Roland DG printers to enhance their operations overseas.
