X-Rite, Pantone, and Sun Chemical Add Color Libraries to PantoneLIVE for Extruded Aluminum Aerosol Packaging

by Staff

DEARBORN | Michigan – October 2024 – Sun Chemical, X-Rite Incorporated and Pantone LLC announce new Monobloc color libraries in the PantoneLIVEā„¢ digital color ecosystem. These libraries facilitate the accurate communication of Pantone standards in the production of monobloc cans, helping brands and metal packaging manufacturers set achievable expectations in the design, proofing and printing for gloss or matte varnish on monobloc aerosols, aluminum collapsible tubes, cartridges and felt pen cases.

Now included in the ā€˜PantoneLIVE Production ā€“ Print and Packagingā€™ subscription, the monobloc libraries give the best possible representation of Pantone colors for producing extruded aluminum aerosol cans. The libraries were developed by capturing the closest achievable match to the core Pantone Matching System colors, using applied ink with either gloss or matte varnish onto monobloc cans, bottles, or containers. Leading consumer brands, packaging converters, and canmakers can rely on PantoneLIVE for confidence in selecting color standards that are achievable in production.

ā€œProviding Pantone-approved colors on a monobloc can is a gamechanger for brands and manufacturers,ā€ said Eduardo Alegria, Global Champion Metal Deco inks, Sun Chemical. ā€œIt simplifies the color approval process and removes guesswork, delays with ink laydowns, and reworks during new design production runs. This creates a more sustainable and cost-effective process.ā€

End-to-End Color Measurement Solutions for Metal Packaging

PantoneLIVE integrates with X-Rite solutions including ColorCert, Color iQC quality control software, Autura Ink Software, Ci64 handheld color measurement device, and NetProfiler performance platform for a truly connected digital color workflow. An end-to-end color management workflow helps brands, packaging printers, and manufacturers streamline color communication, enhancing design and print efficiency.

ā€œCan making is a complex process and the reflective, curved shape of aluminum containers makes producing accurate and consistent color challenging,ā€ said Cindy Cooperman, VP of Global Brand Sales, X-Rite. ā€œThe monobloc libraries in PantoneLIVE, combined with X-Riteā€™s Ci64 spectrophotometer and formulation and quality control software make it easy to select, measure, and produce consistent colors to maintain brand integrity.ā€
